Vicarious trauma and posttraumatic growth : a study of how interpreters working in psychotherapy are impacted by their work, Master's Theses, Dublin Business School, 2012, Ireland, https://esource.dbs.ie/handle/10788/480

My name is Maria Alda Gomez Otero, but most people call me Alda. I was born and raised in northern Spain, and I spent most of my adult life living in other countries: France, Portugal, Ireland and since 2014 I have my permanent residence in Devon (UK).

I always loved the exotic sounds of foreign languages, and meeting people who were different to the norm, maybe because I often felt a bit different myself.

I dedicated the first part of my working life to study and explore languages and foreign lands, and then a change was needed. While working as an interpreter, helping clients and therapists understand each other, a new career path presented itself. Four years later, I obtained my Masters degree with honours in counselling and psychotherapy, having learnt lots about myself and the human condition.

If you wish to know more about my professional experience, please scroll down. I love what I do. I feel excited every time my clients share a small success or notice some progress for small that may be. I understand that by helping you resolve you inner conflicts, you can create a better environment around yourself, and that ripples on into our society and the world. I believe that all together we can appreciate, accept and love our world so that we can reach higher levels of harmony, joy and inner peace.

My work is informed by my life experiences and sound knowledge of different psychotherapeutic approaches.
